Now that I have traveled this country and seen with my own eyes the areas of the U.S. that have sadly earned the description of “food deserts”, I am that much more grateful for the plethora of fresh produce I maybe once took for granted. More so, I am thankful to stand face to face with the men and women that used their own hands, hearts, and homes to grow those treats and treasures that act as medicine on my nightly dinner plate.
When I find a gizmo that can do multiple tasks, packs well, and actually does what it claims, I’m in for life. The Cuisinart Smart Stick has been one of these work horses for me.
As a traveler you would be remiss to live in a new city or town and not truly get to know it from top to bottom the best you can in the short time you are there. One of the best ways to do so is to get away from the tourist traps and finely manicured areas, and go to where “the other half” lives. Volunteering with local agencies that do outreach to communities in need allows you not only to meet new people and make friends, but also to see the entire city if which you are a guest.
