NO, I’m not pregnant… just nauseous. 

One of the many amusements of Fibromyalgia is the pretty consistent bouts of nausea or at times a general lack of appetite. Sometimes its because of medications, sometimes it’s just “because”. Breakfast can be the toughest meal to get down the gullet while also being the most valuable for fighting Fibro flare-ups. Feeling weak is part of the gig, but weakness from lack of eating isn’t helpful. So, having options that are protein rich, appealing, and non-aromatic is a must.

That’s where my favorite protein balls come in handy. These have antioxidant rich blueberries, nausea calming almond butter, and a touch of sweetness. That comes from a couple tablespoons of agave and the stevia used in Vega Vanilla Protein and Greens Powder.

The reason I am so “brand loyal” with this specific protein powder is in big part because it allows me to sneak in some veggie servings. That definitely helps keep me feeling full. It has less than 1 gram of sugar per serving, is plant based, and doesn’t have a wet sand girt texture. (Trust me when I say that when nausea is an issue, texture is more important than ever.) Its simple, really. Three or four balls and a half a cup of fresh blueberries goes superbly with a stiff mug of coffee and is enough to help get me started in pushing through these difficult #Spoonie days.

Blueberry Walnut (No) Energy Balls

Makes 32


  • 1/4 cup almond butter, smooth (I LOVE Barney Bare!
  • 1/2 cup dried blueberries
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp light agave
  • 2 scoops Vega Vanilla Protein and Greens Powder
  • 3/4 cup quick cooking oats
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 3 tbsp walnuts, rough chopped
  • 1 tbsp flax seed meal
  • 6oz (3/4 cup) ORGANIC* unsweetened apple sauce

*Apple Sauce is one of the packaged food products on the “dirty list”. Look above at ⊕ Organic Only! Trust me on this one  for an explanation why Organic is worth the few extra cents.


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients.
  2. Using your hands, mash together until all the protein powder has been absorbed and the oats are thoroughly mixed in.
  3. Roll into balls and place them on a plate or sheet pan. Continue with remaining “batter”. Place all the balls into an airtight container and refrigerate. *I think they taste best once refrigerated overnight.
