Ugh, ain’t nobody’s kitchen got room for that!
A pet peeve of mine is this recent influx in the last 10 years of what I call uni-tools. They seemed to have overwhelmed the market soon after the cable TV lineup was flooded with new cooking shows and “chef” became the new sexy. But the truth is that they are often not useful at all, especially for the one, narrow purpose they are marketed to fill. Check out this banana slicer. Seriously, a banana slicer.
So when I find a gizmo that can do multiple tasks, packs well, and actually does what it claims, I’m in for life. The Cuisinart Smart Stick has been one of these work horses for me. The immersion blender is something I use regularly for sauces, cauliflower mash, and soups.
Wait, I need to process for a moment…
But the surprise stand out attachment for me has been the mini food processor attachment. Its blade is extremely sharp and has the horsepower to do what its earlier version couldn’t have dreamed of. Its perfect for baking and savory cooking. You can make a small batch of frosting, chop up some nuts, or as in my recipe for Cardamom Creme Sandwiches, grind out your own oat flour.
It takes 30 seconds to pulse some peas for my “Macho Peas”, and a minute or so to smooth out some soaked cashews for my “Vegan Chipotle Queso“.
Clean your act up!
Its 75% dishwasher safe, and so much easier for small jobs than assembling and washing say a 14-cup counter-top processor. But obviously I have found ways to make it work for recipes that call for larger, less gypsy style machines.
To illustrate how much of a battle ax this cute little set is, consider that I bought it almost three years ago, used it at least twice a week, and packed it up (not in it’s box) with a few other kitchen essentials and moved it with us 11 times. Its still purrin’ like a kitten! So, if you aren’t sure if it can take the abuse you intend to throw at it, I’m pretty sure it’ll survive.
You can purchase it on several sites and at several stores with various coupon and discount codes to get a good deal. Here are a few to get your low price search started:
